Istanbul – A City With A Noble Background
With one foot in Europe and the other in Asia, Turkey is a country of unique cultural heritage. The largest city in Turkey, Istanbul, serves as a vital cultural and financial center. One very cool thing is that Istanbul used to be the ancient city of Constantinople, showing just how important this city has been through the course of history. Not only is it one of the biggest museums in the world with over a million pieces, it was also the first Turkish museum ever. Filled to the brim with artifacts from the Byzantines, the Greeks, and the Romans,you’ll find all sorts of sarcophagi (including the Alexander Sarcophagus), a piece of the wall of Babylon, and much more.
The Turkish Bath
One thing Turkey is famous for is the Turkish bath, or the hamam. Similar to a sauna, Turkish baths can also come with a massage. Another Turkish tradition is the nargile, which is essentially a hookah. If you get the change, be sure to experience these cultural staples.
Istanbul is simply overloaded with history and culture. However, it still features the big-city attitude. These qualities,in addition to its one-of-a-kind European-Asian flavor, make it a city unlike any other. You will need to get your passport before the trip, but getting a new passport or getting damaged US passports replaced is easy online.
